The Lower Deschutes is Great

The Lower Deschutes is great. The cooler weather last week slowed down the big bugs slightly, but the action is sure to be amazing now that we have warmer days incoming. Salmon flies and golden stones are out in good numbers, the fish will look for these bugs close to the bank. Green drake hatches have been good. Sometimes the fish will favor drakes over the big stoneflies, I wonder why? Pale morning duns have been coming off as well. Caddis have been out and about, most are size 14 - 18. Nymphing should revolve around what is about to hatch or already hatching. Caddis pupa, various mayfly nymphs and stoneflies are great bets. Swinging soft hackles and pupa patterns can also be super fun, the tug is the drug. Get out to the lower, I’d expect the upcoming 80 degree days to be outstanding.
