The Lava Lakes Continue to Fish Well

5-21-2021
Fly and Field Outfitters

The Lava Lakes continue to fish well. As the water clears up expect things to keep getting better. Access via boat ramps isn’t ideal due to low water. Plan to fish around water clarity. If the water is murky fish big leeches, either stripping or under an indicator. Streamers can work well too. Try to size up your chironomids and use one with some flash that’ll get the fish's attention. In clear conditions, midges, chironomids and small buggy lake nymphs will do the trick.

Suggested Flies: Black or Red Zebra Midge #16-18, Black or Red Chironocone #14-18, Grey Gillie Midge #16, Tiger Midge #16-18, Olive Juju Chironomid #14, Dark Assassin #14-18, Bird’s Nest HE #14-18, Bird’s Nest or Black Depth Charge #16-18, Bruised or Olive Balanced Leech #10-14, Ruby Leech #10-12, Agent Black #14-16, Olive or Black BH Mini Leech #12, Thin Mint #10-12, Black Wooly Bugger #10-12
