Fall River is fishing great

5-14-2021
Fly and Field Outfitters

Fall River is fishing great. The fish are mainly being caught subsurface but as the weather warms up the fish will be more willing to eat on the surface. Blue wing olives are still a decent hatch. Pale morning duns are picking up and they’ll be around through the summer. Caddis hatches are sporadic, most are around size 16. Sometimes stoneflies around size 10 - 12 can entice a bite around this time of year. Dry fly hatches often heat up right as the sun ducks under a cloud, sometimes it’s worth it to be ready with a nymphing rod and a dry fly rod. Terrestrials are out and about, try out an ant or beetle pattern if you’re searching for a top water eat. As usual, the best nymphs are small midges or baetis patterns. Larger nymphs or caddis pupa can get an eat every now and then, especially if there’s a hatch of larger bugs. Streamers can be killer, especially around the newly stocked fish. The Fall is looking excellent, get out there and enjoy the big ol’bows.
