Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report
12-19-2014
Larry Edwards
The striper action slowed up a bit this past week for the Cabo fishing anglers but given the current conditions throughout the area, it is expected to rebound very shortly as we move toward the New Year. December and January are well known months for good striper action, particularly on the Pacific side of Cabo, so stand-by for coming action reports. Adding to the local action was the influx in dorado counts and even better, the sizes of the dorado, averaging in the 20-35 lb. ranges. Typical of the Christmas Holiday Season, the numbers of tourists have increased in the Los Cabos area, but the numbers of anglers have decreased. Lots of golfer but not so many fishermen. The overall fish counts for a total of 15 days fished reflected 3 stripers released, 3 wahoo, 4 skipjack and 71 dorado.
Cabo Climate: It has been a partly cloudy week with a light mix of sunshine and temps that varied from 56 nights to 78 daytime highs. Light jackets recommended for evenings and mornings. Humidity level currently at 55%.
Sea Conditions: On the Pacific side, the Finger Bank is holding at 80. Golden Gate Bank to Jaime Bank and south beyond the 1000 fathom curve, temps increase to 81-83 degrees. Cabo San Lucas to Gorda Banks is all at 79.5. Tropical surface breezes ranged from calm to 13 mph, flowing from the northwest. Overall, good fishing weather.
Best Fishing Area: Continues to be off Cabo Falso Drop-Off and extending easterly toward the Herradura area.
Best Bait/Lure: Live bait was best for the billfish and the dorado were taken on both, live bait and artificials.
Live bait supply: Excellent! Good supply of the caballitos at the $3.00 per bait rate.
