Puerto Morelos Fishing Report

9-30-2010
Larry Edwards

While the catching remains good from Puerto Morelos, the numbers of anglers for the past week was unusually low and only 8 trips were reported for the Marina El Cid Fleet. Those that did go produced a mixed bag catch of 10 species that included 1 sailfish, 1 yellowfin tuna, 6 Atlantic barracuda, 4 Spanish mackerel, 2 dorado, 3 bonito, 1 wahoo, 1 amberjack, 1 pargo, 3 mutton snapper and 2 grouper.

PM Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps from 68 nights to 90 daytime highs and light tropical breezes.

Sea Conditions: Overall, it's been an excellent period in this area. While there have been a number of storms through the Caribbean so far this season, nothing has yet to cross through the Puerto Morelos zone and everyone is grateful for the lack of inclement weather. Sea temps arre currently stable at about 83 degrees.

Best Bait: Continues to be the rigged and un-rigged ballyhoo that are fresh caught locally, every day.

Bait supply: A seemingly unending supply in this area.
