Fly and Field Outfitters
The Metolius River is an angler's paradise right now, with a variety of insects making for fantastic fishing. Salmonflies, golden stones, and caddisflies are active, offering thrilling dry fly action when you time it right. Remember to pack BWOs and PMDs as well. If fish aren't surface feeding, switch to a euro or indicator nymphing setup. Heavier tungsten flies will reach fish holding in deeper water. Golden stones, duracells, pheasant tails, copper johns, and rainbow warriors are all reliable patterns. For bull trout, large streamers can be incredibly effective. Experiment with retrieves like swinging, stripping, or dead drifting to trigger strikes from these aggressive fish. The Metolius is on fire—it's the perfect time to wet a line.
