Anglers reported better topwater action

9-23-2022
Chad Burton and Chris Borden

The lake remained near 93 percent of capacity, and the bite has improved with the cooler weather. Anglers reported better topwater action on walking baits and Whopper Ploppers near the weed beds. One angler reported doing very well working the “Donkey Rig” along weed lines early in the day. After the topwater bite died large and smallmouth took Senkos, drop shot, and Texas rigs on main lake pots and along bluff walls. Striper boiled sporadically near Serrano, Yellowbar, and Chumash, and anglers fooled them with topwater, jerkbaits, and Kastmasters. The jailbirds also ate cut sardines and lugworms soaked in deeper water. Catfish have been biting very well on any smelly bait
