Some of the best fishing of the year is happening right now on the Metolius. This week starts out warmer and then we move into more cool and wet weather. The warmer weather will likely bring on some good pale morning dun hatches along with some green drake action. The cooler weather will probably bring on one of the last big green drake hatches of the year, as well as October caddis and blue wing olives. There’s likely still some Cascades stoneflies, salmon flies, and golden stones around but they’ll be gone shortly. The best nymphs out there have been the October Caddis pupa, stonefly nymphs, and mayfly nymphs that are similar to PMDs. Euro-style flies perform extremely well out there, especially in the coming months when the fish are all glued to the bottom. The kokanee are on their way upstream which means that the bull trout are getting ready to feast. Thanks for reading our Metolius reports this summer, fall and winter brings on some awesome fishing so stay tuned.
