Hosmer Lake fished well during the last week of summer. This week we have what’s likely the last of the 70-degree days in the forecast. By the end of the week, things get a bit wet and cooler. I’d expect some excellent fishing for the warm days this week, the fish will be fattening up on the last of the summer hatches. Expect some size 16 - 18 callibaetis to show up right around midday. Terrestrials are mainly off the menu but they still work great as an indicator. Dark assassins are excellent on Hosmer as are callibaetis nymphs, chironomids, and midges. Size 16 - 22 has been a good range for subsurface bugs. Balanced leeches are a great choice, especially in the deeper sections of the lower lake. Stripping leeches and even some small streamers around is a good way to target a bigger aggressive brookie. We are optimistic about the Lava Lakes for next summer, with some luck the fishery will rebound. Thanks for reading our reports this summer!
