Cabo San Lucas Fish Report- The Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet and Fish Cabo Fleet

8-6-2009
Larry Edwards

Have you ever noticed that the same boats almost always appear in the "high boat for the week\" ? This week is no different and the same two boats lead the group. \"Tuna Time\", skippered by Captain Christian Lopez, reported in for 4 fishing days with a great catch of 6 stripers released, 3 sailfish released, 1 wahoo, 15 dorado and 2 yellowfin tuna. Not far behind was Captain Juan Dominguez, skipper of the \"Gaviota VIII\", reflecting 7 stripers and 6 yellowfin tuna for 5 fishing days. The overall combined catches for the fleet, reporting for a total off 25 days fished, reflected 26 stripers, (21 released) 3 sailfish released, 1 wahoo, 36 yellowfin tuna and 49 dorado. Overall, the fishing has improved this past week as we came into the full moon and this may reflect a change for better fishing on the horizon.

Cabo Climate: Warm nights & hot days, temps from 78 nights to 102 daytime highs, with partly cloudy conditions.

Sea Conditions: Golden Gate Bank to Chileno was fairly stable at 85-86 degrees with a little plume of cooler water jutting out from Cabo Falso at 80 degrees. From Chileno to Las Frailes, the temps gradually rose from 86-89 degrees.

Best Fishing Area: Most of the billfish came from the Golden Gate Bank area with the exception to the 3 sailfish from the 95 Fathom Spot.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait was best and worked well on the drop-back to fish on the lures.

Live bait supply: Back to normal with a good supply of caballitos.
