Ixtapa- Zihuatanejo Fish Report- The Independent Sportfishing Fleet

Adding to the excitement of the quality roosterfish bite in Zihuatanejo is the upswing in the sailfish numbers over the past week. According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the roosterfish bite remains excellent, albeit, the port was closed for 3 days due to high swell conditions, and they are seeing many roosters in the 50 lb. ranges. The sailfish moved a little more offshore to the 10-15 miles mark and finally decided to bite, producing some very good release days. Still lots of dorado around and the boats that are fishing report several everyday. Overall, the fishing/catching is very good and a good variety for both inshore and offshore catches. All we need are more anglers.

IZ Climate: Mostly cloudy days with temps from 72 nights to 94 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Near excellent, calm, temps from 82 inshore to 85 offshore.

Best Fishing Areas: Valentin Point, just south of Zihuatanejo for the roosterfish, sailfish at 10-15 miles, along with dorado in between.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait and red & white pencil poppers for the roosterfish. Rigged baits for the sailfish.

Bait Supply: Excellent !
