Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Fish Report

6-4-2015
Larry Edwards

According to our Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Reporter, Captain Temo Verboonen, the fishing remains excellent and right through the full moon for both, inshore and offshore catching. Unfortunately, it's the same very year about this time when the fishing becomes better and better and the anglers dwindle off to almost no one fishing at all. According to Captain Temo, only a very few boats are getting out right now and the fishing is very good and very close to the Bay, about 5 miles out. The sailfish are biting very well with more than 3 strikes per day and the inshore rooster action continues to generate good interest for the few anglers going.

IZ Climate: It's been a mostly cloudy week with sporadic rains from day to day with a mix of sunshine. Air temps holding at 75 nights to 92 daytime highs and a 72% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps good from inshore to offshore and holding stable at 88-89 degrees. Tropical surface breezes flowing in from the southerly directions and ranging from very light to about 13 mph.

Best Fishing Areas: Just a few miles outside the Bay for the billfish and near the Valentin River for the roosterfish.

Best Lure/Bait: The sailfish best on rigged baits and the roosterfish best on live baits.

Bait Supply: Remains very good right through the full moon phase and there is plenty of both, live baits and freshly caught baits for rigging. Live baits sell for $5.00 per dozen.
