According to our on-the-spot reporter for The Aries Sportfishing Fleet, Ms. Kitcia Ceja, the full moon seemed to slow the fishing a little but still, the catch rate for billfish for the offshore cruisers remained at 75%. The offshore sportfishers, reporting in for 4 days fished reflected 1 striper and 2 sailfish, (1released) for 4 days fished. The inshore super pangas reporting in for 2 days fished reflected 1 corvina, 30 snappers and 19 triggerifsh for their efforts. The big news for the week is the addition of a new sportfisher to the Aries Sportfishing Fleet, the Aries X, a 35' Chris Craft sportfisher, powered by twin cummins diesels and a cruising speed of 17 knots, (top speed of 25-plus). This fine yacht sportfisher is available for up to & including 10 passengers at the rate of $750.00/day and comes fully complimented and ready for fishing. She will be posted on our website by early next week with detailed information.
Mazatlan Climate: Air temps varied from 70 nights to 91 daytime highs and an 83% humidity level. It was mostly a sunny week with a few passing clouds, increasing by late Saturday with a rainy Sunday and windy conditions, resulting from the perimeters of Hurricane Blanca.
Sea Conditions: Sea temps remain stable at the 83-84 degree range from inshore to offshore. Surface breezes flowing in mostly from the southwest from very light to about 17 mph on Sunday, with the possibility for a single port closure day.
Best Fishing Area: There was no specific are mentioned in the current report but the boats had fished at about 18 miles out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid and worked outwardly from there.
Best Lure/Bait: The billfish were caught on the freshly rigged baits.
Bait Supply: An excellent supply of fresh rigging baits and live bait remains available.
