THE PUERTO MORELOS FISHING REPORT FOR THE MARINA EL CID SPORTFISHING FLEET, (CARIBBEAN, CANCUN TO COZUMEL AREA)


The season's first white marlin was landed by an angler aboard the yacht, "Mojito", fishing on Thursday, March 26, 2015, and taken on a rigged ballyhoo bait. Adding to the early season catches was another sailfish taken this past week along with fair numbers of dorado. The overall fishing report for a combined total of 62 days fished reflected a 15 fish variety that consisted of 1 white marlin, 1 sailfish, 72 dorado, 9 giant barracuda, 4 Spanish mackerel, 21 bonito, 8 wahoo, 1 blackfin tuna, 1 king mackerel, 7 amberjack, 90 snappers, 53 chac-chi, 50 triggerfish, 7 banana fish and 16 grouper. Overall, it was a wonderful fishing week and the outlook for the near future is very good, particularly with the showing of the white marlin in the mix.

PM Climate: The week was mostly excellent weather conditions and then came Sunday with a red flag day that closed the port due to inclement weather conditions. However, all was back up and running par normal on Monday morning. Air temperatures ranged from 69 nights to 84 daytime highs and a 58% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Remained very good except for the one day port closure. Sea temps at 80-81 degrees throughout the area. Tropical surface breezes were flowing in from the easterly directions from light to about 14 mph, but very little swell condition through the area.

Best Bait: The always available supply of freshly supplied ballyhoo remained the bait of choice for the week and attracted the first white marlin for the season, along with a single sailfish.

Bait Supply: In this wonderful little niche of the Caribbean, the seemingly unending supply of ballyhoo availability has yet to fail to provide a constant daily supply for the boats and anglers.
