THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANJEO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET

According to our knowledgable local reporter, Captain Temo Verboonen, the local offshore action was getting better and better with each passing day. There were the have and have not days and it seemed like the better bite was mid-day for most of the action. The billfish seemed to bite in groups of two or more and were mostly in one small area that worked out well for the lucky boats and anglers. Scattered about the area were pockets of fish and when you stumbled on them, the bite was good. The area continues to reflect good bird life, lots of bait and dolphin, but the game fish seem to be ignoring the bait. The blue marlin and sailfish seem to be milling around and working the same areas. The inshore fishing remains excellent for the big jack crevalles and roosterfish, showing up in good numbers in the Valentin Point Area, along with bonitos and Sierras . Our weather continues to be picture perfect with lots of sunshine everyday.

IZ Climate: Sunny, clear and warm days with temps ranging from 66 nights to 87 daytime highs and a 73% humidity level. A couple of days with a few passing clouds.

Sea Conditions: Calm waters continue. Inshore temps at 81 degrees and rising to 83 in the offshore waters. Blue water is closer to the shoreline but the inshore continues to be greenish colored waters. Tropical surface breezes lowing in from the westerly directions at about 10 mph on the average.

Best Fishing Area: There really is no specific area of concentration other than the few lucky pockets of fish that seem to want to bite for the anglers on the spot and at the time. Valentin Point was the inshore hot spot for roosterfish and the big jak crevalle, along with bonitos and Sierras.

Best Bait/Lure: The billfish still prefer the rigged baits. The inshore fishing for the bigger jacks and roosterfish has picked up on live bait and remains good using the poppers.

Bait Supply: Remains readily available for both, fresh baits for rigging and live bait at $5.00 per dozen.
