THE MAZATLAN FISHING REPORT FOR THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET, (MARINA EL CID, PACIFIC)


Considering the full moon phase during the past week, the overall fishing action was pretty good in the offshore waters an exceptional for the inshore super pangas. The bite remained strong right through the full moon and the anglers stayed busy both offshore and inshore with the final tally result for 25 offshore fishing days producing 11 stripers, (6 released) 6 sailfish, (4 released) 1 mako shark, 11 dorado and 5 yellowfin tuna. The billfish catch rate was 68% in the offshore waters. The super pangas reporting in for a total of 12 days fished reflected 2 sailfish, (1 released) 1 dorado, 1 corvina, 71 grouper, 49 triggerfish, 20 seabass and limits of snappers.

Mazatlan Climate: A mostly sunny week with a couple of days of passing clouds and temps that ranged from 55 nights to 81 daytime highs and a 60% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps varied from 72 degrees inshore to 74 degrees offshore. Surface breezes were mostly from the westerly directions and ranged from almost calm to about 12 mph, very fishable conditions.

Best Fishing Area: Staring at about 15-16 miles out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid and working southerly and outbound from there.

Best Bait/Lure: The bulk of the billfish and were taken on rigged baits, albeit, a few of both were taken on the atificials. The tuna we3re taken on trolling feathers.

Bait Supply: Remained good right through the full moon with fresh baits for rigging and provided as part of the charter and live bait at the rate of $1.00 per bait.
