THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISHING REPORT FOR THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET


The marlin were still being mostly uncooperative for the anglers and the crews and the billfish counts remained pretty low this past week. High boat for the week was the Fish Cabo, skippered by Captain Gil Marquez, reflecting 2 stripers released for 1 day fished and adding a couple of dorado for the anglers dinner. That was followed by the Tuna Time, also with 2 stripers released for 2 days fished, along with 6 dorado to round out his catches. The overall fish counts for a combined total of 15 days fished reflected 6 stripers, (5 released) 1 wahoo (taken aboard the Gaviota I), 2 Sierra and 24 dorado. Most of the dorado were in the 25-30 lb. ranges.

Cabo Climate: Air temps ranged from 61 nights to 83 daytime highs and a 51% humidity level. It was a mostly sunny week with a couple of passing cloud days, but overall, excellent for fishing.

Sea Conditions: Surface breezes varied in directions and ranged from near calm to 11 mph. On the Pacific side, from the Finger Bank to Cabo Falso, has turned into mostly cooler waters at 70-71 degrees. The temperature break is just 3-4 miles south of Cabo San Lucas and rises to 75-76 degrees and spans from Cabo Falso, across the 95 fathom spot, across the 1150 fathom spot and the Cabrillo Sea mount. Most of the area surrounding the Gorda Banks is near 74 degrees. Lots of changing water temperatures at this time.

Best Fishing Area: The best for the billfish was between Finistera to Cabo Falso and about 3-5 miles off shore to the south.

Best Bait/Lure: Live baits and rigged baits were doing well for the billfish and dorado, albeit, the dorado were biting both pretty well.

Bait Supply: Remained good right through the full moon phase and continues to be plentiful at the $3.00 per bait rate.
