THE PUERTO MORELOS FISHING REPORT FOR THE MARINA EL CID SPORTFISHING FLEET, (CANCUN TO COZUMEL AREA)

The full moon seems to have had a dramatic effect on the mixed bag catches for the Marina El Cid Sportfishing Fleet this past week and adding to the downturn was the full moon phase and a single red-flag port closure day. While the dorado bite remained good the better fishing was for the bottom fish varieties in the area and the snappers were the fish of the week. The overall fish report for a total of 49 days reflected 32 dorado, 6 bonito, 3 Spanish mackerel, 2 giant barracuda, 85 snappers, 50 triggerfish and 60 chac-chi. The variety of fish reflected for this past week was the lowest we have ever reported for this area and reflected just under a 5 fish per boat day average.

PM Climate: A partly cloudy week with intermittent sunshine periods. Air temps varied from 70 nights to 84 daytime highs and a 78% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Tropical surface breezes were flowing mostly from the easterly directions and ranged from light breezes to about 16 mph. Sea temperatures were stable at 80-81 degrees throughout the area.

Best Bait: The fresh, daily caught provisions of ballyhoo baits, were the choice of baits for all fishing days and there was an ample supply for everyday's action.

Bait Supply: An excellent supply of ballyhoo baits continue to be provided for the fishing fleet on a daily basis.
