East Cape Fish Report

Yellowfin Tuna - The boats willing to make the run to Aleman Bank down south were rewarded with good tuna. The fish were very line-shy, meaning that anglers went light on the fluorocarbon, resulting in a lot of "long-range releases." However, our guys did bring in 8 tuna in the 25- to 35-pound range to the cleaning table.

Billfish- Karl Kitrel from North County, San Diego, at the age of 88 caught his first marlin Friday. He followed that up yesterday with a 30-pound dorado, another first!

Dorado - Karl Kittrell's and a few others.

Roosterfish - Roosters and jacks along the beaches are keeping the fly-fishers interested.

While the north wind has arrived much to the delight of the wind surfers, the striped marlin continue to dominate the offshore action, with the best results coming from the La Ribera Banks and also up north by the 88 when the wind backs off.

Closer to the shore off the Lighthouse, the wahoo are still biting early morning. While dorado are being found from Palmas all the way to the Lighthouse.

Confirming that Baja winter is officially here are the sierra that are snapping at almost anything thrown at them, debunking the theory that the roosterfish that didn't receive the memo are still biting along with some stubborn jack cravelle.

For the "if all else fails" gang, the bottom fishing is producing grouper, snapper and for the really desperate, some trigger fish! ...Cindy Kirkwood, East Cape Tackle
