Loreto Fish Report

Fishing has turned the corner.

Along with the sardines we are seeing the first of our winter north winds.

This past week's fishing trips have focused on La Cholla and farther out to Tinturara on Carmen Island's north side.

Our bait suppliers have been netting sardines near the Marina with most of the little morsels running between 3- and 4-inches. They work well at La Cholla for bottom fish. Cabrilla, pargo, pintos and reds are hitting in 75 feet of water. One boat had a mixed bag even including a 30-inch dorado and a fire-cracker yellowtail.

Farther out at Tinturara the same results! Bigger yellowtail have been biting but breaking off on the light line when we use with the sardinas. As soon as we get some bigger bait we can shift to 50- and 60-pound line.

Sardinas are a big improvement over our weeks and months of slim bait. Little sardinas with big yellowtail....it's kinda' like a sumo wrestler picking off pepperoni slices from a pizza ... good luck slowing that situation down!

Another cruise ship, tomorrow. Princess Cruises are coming to town once a week and the city is getting prettied like a good host should!...Rick Hill, Pinchy Sportfishing
