Punta Chivato

Fishing was slow. However we were lucky on one sailfish. While dropping down for cabrilla or whatever on a spot Bob Davis ( Pacifica boats) my old neighbor told me about 15 years ago we call it Davis hole. I just put a dead sardine on a dropper loop and Jilly said, "Look there's a sleeper" and sure enough it was. So up with the loop, and I grabbed my bait caster. Only had one-half of a frozen whole sardine with the head hanging off. Couldn't cast, it; would've flown off. Jilly ran the boat toward the high and dry fin as it sunk out. Crap! So I just set the bait carefully in the water and slow-trolled where we saw the fish and a minute later we were bit. Fish on! It was a great jumper and flew like a kite. Our best camera was broken so we used what we had. Water was 86 degrees and flat. I was looking at the houses in Chivato as we leadered the fish for a clean release; however, it tore my hands up pretty good. No rod belt or gloves. That was the highlight of our trip. Only local Harry Oxley caught a few Dorado about 2 miles in front of Inez
