Coronado Islands Fish Report

11-29-2014
Gary Graham

The yellowtail bite at the Coronado's is still very good considering it's late November.

There are yellows on the deep rockfish area NE of North Island, on the ridge running through the Middle Grounds and out on the flats between South Island and Mexico.

There was even a 20-pound class bluefin tuna caught and released yesterday on the Mission Belle at a spot called Tuna Rock.

Most of the action is deep on yoyo iron and dropper loop sardines or mackerel. Occasionally the fish are popping up to the surface and biting the surface iron and the fly-lined sardines so pay attention for birds and boiling fish while you meter around looking for the deep stuff.

Bonito are still around. These are ranging from 1 to 10 pounds and are spread out all over the Islands. If you find a school, the bite can be wide open!

Rockfish action is good now on lings, the red-type rockfish and whitefish. The deep area just north of North Island and the area SW of the Rockpile are both working well.

The Descanso Bay area is kicking out lots of the brown-type of rockfish along with a few lingcod. http://www.fishdope.com/
