Loreto Fish Report

11-29-2014
Gary Graham

Loreto has had the yellow flag flying at the marina for the past four days. The port captain has closed the port for small craft and the wind has definitely warranted it.

Last weekend was windy but nothing like the 25-mile-per-hour stuff we had mid-week.

The last boats out came back with triggerfish, cabrilla and some bonito. The same story we have been singing for weeks.

I have noticed lots of pelican swarming and diving on bait in front of the Oasis Hotel. There is a large shallow flat created by this past season's hurricane runoff just north of the arroyo/river at the south end of the Malecon.

In the same area I have seen schools of baitfish, airborne fleeing from unknown attackers.

It's hard to tell from 200 yards away but the baitfish looked like 10-inch bigeyed jacks and I would assume the attackers were also jacks, roosters or yellowtail.

Looks like that would point to a good winter battle. The only thing I would like to know is, when?...Rick Hill, Pinchy Sportfishing
