Mazatlan Fishing Report
11-13-2014
Larry Edwards
Mazatlan fishing from the Aries Sportfishing Fleet this past week was offering the anglers good action on the surface fish that included marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna and dorado. The offshore cruisers, reporting in for 14 days fished, reflected 1 blue marlin, 1 striper, 9 sailfish, (4 released) 11 yellowfin tuna, (mostly school fish sizes to about 25 lbs.) and 14 dorado. The inshore super pangas reported in for 5 days fished and landed 18 dorado, 1 snapper, 9 bonito, 10 triggerfish and 30 rock perch for their anglers. It appears that the dorado bounced back into the counts this past week and other than a couple of inclement weather port closure days, caused by the tail end of Hurricane Vance, conditions were very good for the inshore and offshore fishing.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly bright and sunny days this past week with an occasional passing cloud in the mix and the tail end residual from Hurricane Vance that dissipated and made it's way onto shore near Puerto Vallarta. Air temps are good and ranged from 61 nights to 84 daytime highs with a 94% humidity rate. Light tropical breezes during the days and evenings.
Sea Conditions: Mostly calm with surface breezes flowing gently from the westerly directions to about 10 mph in the afternoons. Water temps holding stable at 83 to 84 degrees with good clarity at about 14-15 miles.
Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 17 miles southerly from the Marina El Cid and working outbound from thereto about 25 miles or so.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged trolling baits were working very well for the billfish and dorado. The tuna were taken on a variety of tuna feathers.
Bait Supply: Continues to be excellent for the freshly caught baits for rigging and plenty of live bait at the $1.00 per bait rate.
