Just before the WON Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament, we had a big group of 132 anglers from the mid-to-north western states that fished two days aboard 26 different sportfishers that produced good numbers of pelagic sportfish, including marlin, sailfish, wahoo, dorado and yellowfin tuna and by the end of day two, the results reflected some pretty good catches that included 1 black marlin, 4 blue marlin, 63 striped marlin, (released) 6 sailfish, (released) 42 dorado 10 wahoo and 3 yellowfin tuna. In the Tuna Tournament, the "Fish Cabo", skippered by Captain Gil Marquez, landed a first place winner with a 37 lb. wahoo for the 2nd day of the event and won about $48,000.00 for their team of 4 anglers, put together by Nick Koretoff, Fresno, CA. The fish counts following the Tuna Tournament reflected a combined total of 30 days that reflected 2 blue marlin, 6 stripers, (4 released) 9 wahoo and 29 yellowfin tuna. High billfish boat for the week was the "Gaviota VII", reflecting 2 blue marlin, 2 stripers and 10 dorado for their 3 days fished.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny and pleasant days with a few passing clouds and light tropical breezes. Temps ranged from 64 nights to 87 daytime highs with light tropical breezes.

Sea Conditions: Overall, excellent! Sea temps on both sides of the peninsula were stable and holding well at 80-81 degrees. Surface breezes were mostly from the northeast and easterly directions from calm mornings to about 9 mph.

Best fishing areas: During the Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament, the better catches seemed to be coming from the Gorda Banks area but for those not focused on tuna, the catches were good on both sides of the peninsula for dorado, a few wahoo and striper action, along with a few blue marlin and a black marlin. The hottest spot for the mixed catches came from the Light House to Los Arcos.

Best Lure/Bait: Just prior to the tournament the better tuna bite had been on squid but that seemed to change as the tournament fishing days came about. Live bait, rigged baits and artificials were all doing well for the surface action fish.

Bait Supply: A very good live bait supply continues to be available for the anglers and crews at $3.00 per bait.
