Mazatlan Fishing Report
7-16-2014
Larry Edwards
It was a very slow week for charters from the Marina El Cid that resulted in only five charter fishing days for the fleet and resulted in difficulty in locating the fish. While the elements were certainly positive, good water temps and clarity and good sea conditions for the most part, the catching was just so-so and even the dorado bite was diminished, too. So, we wound up with 5 offshore fishing days that resulted in 2 sailfish, (1 released) and 3 dorado. The super pangas reported in for two days fished that resulted in 2 sailfish and 21 snapper for their efforts.
Mazatlan Climate: Scattered rain showers on Tuesday & Wednesday, diminishing for the remainder of the week. Temps ranged from 74 nights to 90 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Surface breezes from calm to 14 mph, mostly flowing in from the southerly directions. Sea temps near excellent at 84 inshore to 86 offshore.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits were the bait of choice that caught the billfish and dorado for both, the offshore cruisers and the super pangas.
Bait Supply: Plenty of freshly caught baits furnished for rigging and the live bait supply was good, too, at the $1.00 per bait rate.
