The inshore fishing has surpassed the offshore action for now and the roosterfish bite continues to be a notch or two above exceptional, especially in the area near Valentine Point. According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the roosters are nearly all big fish and more than eager to bite the live baits and poppers. Good action for the Sierras, (Spanish mackerel) chulas and jack crevalle, too. The inshore fish continue to chase the sardines and can make for some terrific catching when you're in the right location. The offshore fishing is not all that bad, either, especially for the bigger blue marlin. Last week, a couple of 250 Kilo fish were taken, (550 lb. fish) and enough action to keep anglers' eyes on the trolling gear. They were biting on any kind of big bait or lures and not overly fussy with the presentation. Captain Arturo Landa of the super panga, Janeth, had a big blue already captured and in the boat and they thought the fish was dead. About 10 minutes later, the fish came fully alive, bouncing around inside the boat and then jumping overboard and vanishing into the deep. Lots of broken gear and equipment but nobody was hurt. How lucky was that? Tuna still holding at about 40 miles and big concentrations of sailfish in the 50 mile zone, with both outside the typical 8-hour fishing day.

IZ Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days and pleasant evenings with temps that ranged from 71 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Flat calm mornings with surface breezes rising to 5-10 mph from the westerly directions with just enough breeze to ripple the water. Inshore sea temps at 86-87 and rising to 88 in the offshore waters.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait best for the inshore fishing and big baits and artificials for the blue marlin and the offshore action.

Best Fishing Area: the bigger billfish close. starting at about 12-miles and fishing outbound from there. Tuna requiring a 10-hour day to the 40 mile mark and biting on feathers, lures, cedar plugs.

Bait Supply: Remains plentiful for live bait and rigging baits. Live bait at $5.00 per dozen.
