Hello from your Lake Jennings!
Lake Jennings has started their Trout Season and some anglers not only caught their limits but were able to bag some of the larger trout being introduced this season. The weekend started off with a limit of Bass caught by boat, all released. Next were the shore anglers who caught a couple of Catfish and a couple of Trout, reports that the Trout were cruising the shoreline. By Sunday, Hermit Cove was the place to be with a few anglers catching limits. There was plenty of shoreline left and another Sierra Bow Trout stocking will go in this week.
Best Catfish Spots: Deeper waters and the buoyline at the tower
Best Catfish Bait: Mackerel, Chicken Liver, or Dough Bait
Best Bass Spots: Points in 25' to 30' of water along the weed line.
Best Bass Lures/Bait: Crankbaits, Frogs and small Crawdads
Best Wiper Spots: On the move in schools
Best Wiper Lures/Bait: Live Shiners, Chicken Liver and frozen Anchovies (fishing the bottom) and Crankbaits (if spotted towards the top).
Notables: Marty Poe of El Cajon caught a Sierra Bow Trout weighing in at 3 ?? pounds using a medium size Shiner fishing Half Moon Cove. Next was Giovanni, Alfredo, and Joseph Hobby of San Diego all caught limits each of Trout with the top four weighing in at 6 1/8 pound, 5 ?? pound, 3 5/8 pound and 2 ?? pound, they used a combination of Rapalas, Kastmasters, Powerbait and Nightcrawlers fishing Hermit Cove. Check this out! JR Meade of La Mesa weighed in with a 23 ?? pound Blue Catfish using mackerel near Half Moon fishing by boat. Prognosis: Larger Bass will be looking for the trout so start throwing your swim baits. As long as the warmer water holds up so should the bite. No sign of Wipers, but I guarantee they are putting on some size. Catfish are moving out to deeper waters, so you will need a boat if you plan on landing one of the large ones. New this year, Lake Jennings will stock 1 ?? to 2 pound trout along with trophies up to 12 pounds throughout the season. Right now we are putting in 6-8 pounders until the water gets a bit cooler and then come the 10-12 pounders.
Water Temperature: 71 degrees and dropping
Note New Hours:
FRIDAY, SATURDAY, and SUNDAY
OPEN AT 5:45 AM
CLOSE AT 5:15 PM
