7-12-2013

While the billfish bite seemed to have slowed up this past week, there was till plenty of action throughout the area that reflected a variety of 17 species. Included in the report was 1 white marlin, 3 sailfsih, 18 dorado, 25 giant barracuda, 53 bonito, 3 blackfin tuna, 2 Spanish mackerel, 3 wahoo, 1 shark, 21 triggerfish, 24 grouper, 22 pargo, 9 banana fish, 12 soap fish, 3 kite fish, 2 cuchas, (a bottomfish that looks like a cabezon) and 7 miscellaneous for their 38 days fished.
PM Climate: Mostly cloudy days and a bit humid with temps that ranged from 76 nights to 88 daytime highs. Scattered showers possible throughout the weekend.
Sea Conditions: Sea temps holding very well at 82-83 degrees and good clarity offshore. Surface breezes flowing in from the easterly directions at 5-15 mph and very little swell and light "pop-corn" in the afternoons.
Best Bait: The hot bite bait continues to focus on the ballyhoo and is provided freshly caught on a daily basis. These baits can be used for all fish in the area but may be prepared differently for surface fish and bottom fish. Some baits are skirted with different colored skirts, some are cut for bottom fishing, some are used natural and trolled in the outriggers or the downriggers.
