According to our local Mazatlan Reporter, Ms. Kicia Ceja, the dorado are starting to build under the off shore buoys and more and more sailfish are showing up in the offshore waters. The dorado currently being caught are all in the 20-35 lb. ranges and we anticipate a surge in the dorado counts for the coming week. We are also seeing a sprinkling of blue marlin, smaller fish, in the 250-280 lb. ranges, and assumably following the dorado. a primary food fish for the bigger billfish. Our overall fish counts for the offshore waters for a total of 10 days fished, reflected 2 stripers, 8 sailfish, (4 released) 8 dorado and 13 yellowfin tuna, (school fish sizes, 15-35 lbs.). There was a single in shore fishing day that reported 5 corvina and limits of rock perch. We had a single port closure day on July 7, 2013, with the remainder of the week allowing for fishable sea surface conditions.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy and warm days, a little humid and temps that varied from 74 nights to 90 daytime highs. Some rain on July 8th and some showers possible throughout the week. Surface breezes flowing from the SW at 5-15 mph.

Sea Conditions: Overall, good. Early week some residual inclement weather from the passing of Hurricane Eric, but only a l-day port closure and progressively better with each passing day. Water temps near perfect at 85 all over and very good clarity from about 15 miles off shore.

Best Fishing Area: Out to the South of the Marina El Cid, staring at about 15 miles and working out bound to about 25 miles. Good sailfish action, a few dorado and yellowfin tuna showing. Buoys starting to receive increased dorado build-up.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits best for the billfish, feathers for the yellowfin tuna and live caballitos and bonito for the bigger dorados.

Bait Supply: Continues to be readily available with a good supply of both, fresh baits for rigging and live caballitos at the rate of $1.00 per live bait.
