2-7-2013

Another fun-fishing week from Puerto Morelos, in the Riviera Maya. Our area reporter, Ms. Nayade Gamboa, reporting in for the Marina El Cid Sportfishing Fleet, reflected a 15 fish mixed bag catch for their 28 fishing days that produced a 148 fish combination or an average of 5.2 fish per day. The catch results listed 4 dorado, 10 king mackerel, 3 Spanish mackerel, 42 bonito, 7 giant Atlantic barracuda, 4 rainbow runners, 4 jack crevalle, 12 amberjack, 3 soap fish, 1 porgy, 3 triggerfish, 15 strawberry fish, 9 banana fish, 8 snappers and 23 grouper.
PM Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps that ranged from 69 nights to 86 daytime highs and for the most part, light and variable surface breezes from the easterly directions.
Sea Conditions: Sea temps are holding at 79-80 degrees with about a half-degree decline in the surface temps through this past week.
Best Bait: Yes, it continues to be the freshly caught ballyhoo as the bait of choice for this region and there continues to be no lack of bait quality for this area. The crew use the baits differently, depending on the type of fish being pursued and use natural whole baits to skirted whole baits for trolling and cut chunks and fillets for bottom fishing.
