Angler at Puerto Morelos lands a 16 species catch over a 36 day span
2-1-2013
Larry Edwards
It has been another very good fishing week from Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, (Riviera Maya) reflecting an incredible mixed bag catch that spanned some 16 species of fish for a total of 36 days fished. While we had no sailfish in the report for this week, we surely did have the variety and almost every fish that came aboard the boats was something different from the fish caught before on that day. The report included 3 dorado, 49 bonito, 4 giant Atlantic barracuda, 2 king mackerel, 1 wahoo, 5 Spanish mackerel, 12 blackfin tuna, 9 amberjack, 6 soap fish, 1 porgy fish, 18 banana fish, 2 parrot fish, 16 triggerfish, 37 strawberry fish, 16 snappers and 21 grouper. According to our reporter from the Marina El Cid, Ms. Nayade Gamboa, it was a wonderful fishing week and many families enjoyed their fishing charters that ranged from 4 to 8-hour charters.
PM Climate: Mostly cloudy days but good temperatures that ranged from 66 nights to 81 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Sea temps remained stable at 80 degrees with mostly light & variable surface breezes from the easterly directions and light surface windchop.
Best Bait/Lure: The ballyhoo baits, freshly caught on a daily basis, continue to be the bait of choice for this area and are used in a variety of methods, depending on the type of fish being pursued, including whole, rigged baits for gamefish on the troll, cut baits
