"The weather was smooth every day of our trip," commented chartermaster John Hazlett of Charkbait when Royal Polaris returned to Fisherman's Landing September 30. The six-day trip had 35 anglers, with Roy Rose as skipper and Billy Santiago Jr. as second skipper. The group fished at several spots, including The Ridge, where the 23 Spot was a great producer, and Cedros Island.

Mike Lynch of Lakeside won first place for a dorado of 27.6 pounds. "He jumped at least five times," said Mike, who added that he hooked his prize-winner on a sardine and a 4/0 Owner Mutu hook on 40-pound Seaguar fluorcarbon, 40-pound Izorline, and Avet SX reel and a seven-foot Sabre rod.

Matt Giacalone of San Diego won second place for a 25-pound yellowfin tuna. Erik Martinson of Orange won third place for a 23-pound dorado. The biggest fish of the trip was a halibut caught at Cedros by Frank Piranio of San Diego.
