According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the rains have tapered off and
it is appearing to be the tail end of the rainy season for their
area. He reports that the inshore fishing is a good option right now
because the waters are clearing and the jacks and bonito have moved
in and the roosterfish are providing some good action, too. There is
still not much activity to report in the offshore waters and very few
boats are getting out and hampering the fish reports. However, he
did report striped marlin, yellowfin tuna and dorado are scattered in
the offshore waters at this time but there is no consistent area of
fish concentration yet, as they move into the fall fishing season.
Temo says the fish are not yet settled and moving around with the
changing currents, water temps and water clarity. Every time the
water turns blue the fish tend to pop up in that area, but it has
been changing about every other day.
IZ Climate: Partly cloudy days with good stretches of sunshine and 5-10 knots of tropical surface breeze.
Sea Conditions: Gentle surface breezes from the westerly directions, temps holding well at 87-88 degrees and water clarity is much improved from about 10 miles offshore and becoming clean and blue at about 20 miles.
Best Lure/Bait: Roosters and jack cravelle best on live bait with a few fish being taken on the pencil poppers. The rigged baits working best for the offshore fishing.
Best Fishing Area: Still no real concentration of fish in the offshore waters s the fish may show up in different spots everyday and depends on the overall conditions, water temps, clarity and feed biomass.
