Fish Report for 7-15-2022
The 20-mile stretch of the Upper Kern continues to kick out trout
7-15-2022
Chad Burton and Chris Borden
The 20-mile stretch of the Upper Kern continues to kick out trout even with no plants in the last couple weeks. The flows are very low, just over 100 CFS and the water clarity is very good. Spin-anglers have been scoring fish with split-shotted salmon eggs, crickets, or spinners. Fly fishers are using attractor nymphs and streamers during the morning hours. While dry flies are the ticket during the late afternoon hatches. In the Lower Kern, we had no reports of trout being taken this week, but Section 3 would be your best bet with salmon eggs, Chartreuse garlic Powerbait and spinners. The Lower Kern Bass action is excellent with reports of over 40 fish days on Get Bent Baits. Catfish can be found with cut baits and clams. At the time of reporting, the Upper Kern River at Kernville was flowing at 104 CFS and the Lower Kern River was flowing at 341 CFS.
