Fall River continues to fish very well
10-22-2021
Fly and Field Outfitters
Fall River continues to fish very well. The cold rainy weather this week may slow things down slightly, but overcast conditions typically make the fish less spooky. Blue wing olives will be the predominant dry fly out there. Caddis hatch sporadically, usually they’re around size 16 - 20. Midges are also very important from now until next spring. If you see fish rising to nothing they are likely eating adult midges or midge pupa. Subsurface fishing has been the way to go for the most part. Midges and small mayfly patterns get the job done. Fish are much more likely to bite on something small, size 18 - 22 is a good range and patterns with a slim profile are a good idea. If you’ve tried a couple different nymphs and the fish won’t budge, throw a streamer or two. Sometimes fish will chase stupidly large streamers out there. The fishing won’t be this good forever, get out to the Fall while they're in the eating mood.
