Fly and Field Outfitters

This is the last full week of fishing up at Crane Prairie. The fishing has been consistent recently, it can be slow on some of the colder days but the fish are still active. If you’re a fan of fishing in the rain, congratulations, this next week is looking very wet. Lots of cold days with a few threats of snow. Dry fly fishing isn’t going to be super productive. You may see some callibaetis or midges but I doubt the hatches will be significant. Leeches are picking up most of the fish right now, mostly under indicators but stripping has worked too. During the cold dark days, a black leech performs very well. Dark assassins, chironomids, and midges are good nymphs to tie on in tandem with your leech. Size 16 - 20 dark patterns are doing very well. If you head up to Crane, have an excellent time, and remember your rain jacket.

Recommended Dries: Parachute Callibaetis #14-18, Hackle Stacker Callibaetis #14-18, Chubby Chernobyl Patriot and Purple #12-14
