Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet

8-13-2009
Larry Edwards

While the dorado bite at the shark buoys continues, it has slowed over the full moon period and should rebound with a vengeance in the coming week. The offshore fishing is producing about a 50% catch ratio on sailfish, along with a scattering of bigger dorado and yellowfin tuna. According to Geronimo Cevallos, the manager of the Aries Fleet, most of the boats are having an opportunity for a billfish everyday, but the fish have not been overly eager to bite yet.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps from 78 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Very light surface breezes and clear, warm water, temps at 84-85 throughout the area.

Best Fishing Area: At the buoys for dorado and out to the southwest 22-25 miles for the billfish and tuna.

Best Bait/Lure: The billfish were best on the rigged mullet. The dorado at the buoys were best on live bait.
