Pardee Lake Fish Report

5-15-2009
Fred Dorman

LAKE PARDEE HAS FILLED TO CAPICITY AND HAS BEEN GOING OVER THE SPILL SINCE MID WEEK.

Look for blue skies, gentle breezes and temperatures in the low to mid 80's this weekend. Water temperatures have remained the same as last week, 65 degrees at surface and 58 degrees at the 20 foot mark. The water visibility is still good to 20 feet. The water level is the highest I have seen it a long time.

BANK FISHING ---- Shore anglers continue to do well. The hot spots are Tom Sawyer Island (particularly under the foot bridge), the Launch Ramp, Jackson Creek spillway, Rainbow Point and the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse. Sliding sinker set ups are widely used, however silver/blue Kastmasters and black woolly buggers are also very successful right after a plant. White power eggs, maggots and power worms are the best sellers at the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular.

TROLLERS----Trolling was good again this week, lots of mixed limits and most regulars back in by noon. Lots of boats pre-fishing today for the Kokanee derby on Saturday. Boats were working the River Mouth, the face of the Dam, up river as far as Columbia and some were running the barrel in the South End. Trout have gone a little deeper and are now at 20 to 30 feet but word is Kokanee are deeper still at 40 to 60 feet. The Kokanee have been in the 8" to 11" range with a few larger to 15 inches. Equipment and bait the same, orange hoochies, bugs, sling blades or flashers tipped with a partial night crawler, small spoons or spinners, Uncle Larry's copper popper, pinkie or tiger behind a smaller Sep's silver, watermelon or silver/green dodger.

UP COMING EVENTS---- This Saturday May 16th Pardee Lake will host the Annual Mike Carrington Memorial Family Fun and Kokanee Derby. Don't miss the friendly competition, great food, fun, prizes and all around great time for all at this Project Kokanee sponsored event. For information and entry forms please go to http://www.kokanee.org. In addition there are four bass clubs holding tournaments this weekend so there is a little something for everyone going on this weekend.

CATFISH----Some whiskered specimens in the 5 to 8 pound range were caught during the week in coves on the Eastern shore.

RECENT SUCCESS STORIES---Scott Smithson of El Dorado got this 7.3 lb Largemouth with a wedding ring in the River mouth. Nick Welton of Galt landed an 8.5 pounder with a Robo Worm at Stony Creek Landing. Congratulations to all-well done!

To date 50,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with another plant of scheduled for the near future.
