Lake Pardee Fish Report
5-8-2009
Fred Dorman
Blue skies and warm temperatures this weekend and beyond. Water temperatures have edged up slightly since last week, 65 degrees at surface and 58 degrees at the 20 foot mark. The water visibility improved and is good to 22 feet. The water level went up 6 to 8 feet since last report and presently is 3 to 5 feet below spill.
BANK FISHING ---- Shore anglers continue to do well right after the plant and beyond. The hot spots are well established and haven't changed again for this report, Tom Sawyer Island (particularly under the foot bridge), the Launch Ramp, Rainbow Point and the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse. Look for the fishing from the bank to improve with the higher Lake Levels and excellent water clarity. Sliding sinker set ups are widely used, however silver/blue Kastmasters and black woolly buggers are also very successful right after a plant. White power eggs, maggots and power worms are the best sellers at the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular.
TROLLERS----Trolling was good again this week, lots of mixed limits and most regulars back in by noon. Boats were working the River Mouth, the face of the Dam and the Narrows. Trout are still shallow at 5 to 25 feet but drop it down to 40 feet for the Kokanee. The Kokanee have been in the 8" to 11" range with a few larger to 15 inches. Equipment and bait the same, orange hoochies, sling blades or flashers tipped with a partial night crawler, Uncle Larry's copper popper, pinkie or tiger behind a smaller Sep's silver/green dodger.
UP COMING EVENTS---- Saturday May 16th Pardee Lake will host the Annual Mike Carrington Memorial Family Fun and Kokanee Derby. Don't miss the friendly competition, great food, fun, prizes and all around great time had by all at this Project Kokanee sponsored event. RECENT SUCCESS STORIES---Mike Nichols of Tracy got this nice stringer of Trout/Kokanee in the Narrows using a Needle Fish (color and design pattern with held). Congratulations Mike-well done!
To date 49,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with another plant of scheduled for the near future.
