Lake Pardee Fish Report
4-24-2009
Fred Dorman
The forecast calls for overcast and rain starting today. Look for some partial clearing Sunday and showers continuing throughout next week. Water temperatures decreased a little to 55 at surface and 50 degrees at the 20 foot mark. The water visibility will degrade due to runoff from the rain look for good visibility from 12 to 15 feet. The water level is the same as last report; the level is approximately 12 to 14 feet below spill and holding.
BANK FISHING ---- Shore anglers are still doing well in the Recreation Area as planters continue to hang out well after the plant. The hot spots are well established and haven't changed again this report, Tom Sawyer Island (particularly under the foot bridge), the Launch Ramp, Rainbow Point and the bank behind the EBMUD boathouse. Sliding sinker set ups are widely used, however silver/blue Kastmasters and black woolly buggers are also very successful right after a plant. White power eggs, maggots and power worms are the best sellers at the Marina, with night crawlers and yellow power bait also popular.
TROLLERS----Trollers were doing better last week during the warm weather. Some reported catching mixed limits of Trout and Kokanee. The areas are unchanged, start at the Rock Wall and head up as far as Indian Head Rock. Boaters reported harder conditions this morning, the wind and rain forced some to come back in before they had limited out. Some Kokanee are showing up and most have been in the 8" to 11" range. Equipment and bait the same, orange hoochies, flashers tipped with a partial night crawler, Uncle Larry's copper popper, pinkie or tiger behind a smaller Sep's silver/green dodger. Most are heading upstream but I did see a few working the Narrows and Mel's Cove. The Trout are still shallow; don't go too deep most hookups are at 5 to 15 feet.
BASS- There was a private bass tournament held here over the weekend. The anglers did well and released their catches in the Recreation area. Try crawdad jigs and plastic worms along the eastern shore at rocky outcroppings.
RECENT SUCCESS STORIES---Donna Figuera of Fremont got this excellent German Brown (18" and 4.47 lbs) at the river mouth using a night crawler. Well done Donna-Congratulations!!
To date 46,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game with more plants scheduled in the near future.
