I had the opportunity to talk with Captain Roberto Marquez, skipper of the "Tuna Time", and he explained that they had been seeing many, many marlin just outside the Arch and extending on out 3-4 miles or so, but they are being super stubborn and just refuse to bite. He attributes the lack of a bite to the off-colored water that extends from San Cristobal southerly for about 15 miles and forming a triangular pattern that extends out from Cabo Falso area. The water is surely warm enough but it lacks clarity and that can affect the bite, at least for that area. The total combined fish report for 42 days reflected 18 stripers, (11 released) 1 hammerhead shark, (released) 3 dorado, 13 Jack crevalle, (aka "toro") 18 skipjack and 34 yellowfin tuna, (some at 10-15 lbs., some at 60-90 lbs. and up to 185 lbs.) High marlin boat for the week was the Gaviota X reflecting 5 stripers and 2 yellowfin tuna for 4 days fished.

Cabo Climate: A mostly sunny, clear and very warm week with a few passing clouds. Air temperatures varied from a balmy 75 nights to 95 daytime highs and a 70% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Surface breezes flowing in from the westerly directions and ranged from near calm to about 15 mph, all very fishable. Water temps on the Pacific side from the Finger Bank down to Cabo Falso were stable at 76-77 degrees. From San Cristobal around to Cabo and out for several miles is off-colored water and while there is lots of billfish being seen they do not want to bite. From Cabo Falso out to the 1150 Fathom Spot all at 78-79 degrees and Palmilla Point to Gorda Banks all at 81-82 degrees and add another degree or two at Los Frailes area.

Best Fishing Area: Numerous billfish are being seen from about a half-mile outside the Cabo San Lucas Arch to about 3-4 miles off but they are extraordinarily finicky and not interested in in live baits, rigged baits or the artificials. Even changing the line and hook sizes has not been helpful.

Best Lure/Bait: There was no best bait/lure reported his week and the crews were trying multiples of choices without success. Frustrating fishing to see so many marlin and unable to get them to bite. Tuna being taken mostly on artificials.

Live Bait Supply: Continues to be plentiful for caballitos at the $3.00 per bait rate paid direct to the bait vendors.
