Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Fish Report

According to our on-the-spot reporter for Zihuatanejo, Captain Temo Verboonen, once the storms moved out of the area, the fishing came right back very strong and the inshore and offshore fishing has been superb. The sailfish action is close in and starts just a couple miles out front of the Bay, offering very good action opportunities for the few anglers on location. However, the absolutely dynamite and explosive action has been from the roosterfish along the beaches adjacent to the Zihuatanejo Airport area. Temo says, "we raised 15 roosterfish in a single day and landed five with spinning gear and they were pretty eager to bite the poppers and live bait. It has all the potential for being another great week's fishing with the next week's weather looking promising for the anglers".

IZ Climate: It was a partly cloudy week with intermittent sunshine. Air temps varied from 74 nights to 93 daytime highs and an 83% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps near perfect and ranged from 88 inshore to 86 offshore and excellent clarity starting at about 1.5 miles out front of the Bay. Surface breezes are flowing from the westerly directions and have been ranging from almost calm to about 9 mph.

Best Fishing area: Right out front of the Bay for Sailfish, about 1.5-2 miles or so and along the beaches adjacent to the Zihuatanejo Airport for the roosterfish.

Best Bait/Lures: Rigged baits working superbly well for the sailfish and live bait, along with poppers working well for the roosterfish.

Bait Supply: Excellent supply of both, fresh baits or rigging and live bait at $5.00 per dozen.
