Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Fish Report
5-21-2015
Larry Edwards
According to Captain Temo Verboonen, our Zihuatanejo fishing reporter, the billfish bite was very good as was the inshore action. Both had improved considerably and the only thing they were lacking was anglers at the dock to go fishing. Only a few boats got out through the week, just enough to let us know the fish are there, in good numbers and wanting to bite. The inshore water clarity cleaned up pretty good and the jack crevalle, bonitos and roosterfish returned to the want to bite mode. There is good clean water just out front and the fish are close in, making for longer fishing days and even better, they seem to want to bite.
IZ Climate: It has been a partly cloudy week with intermittent sunshine and a prediction for the4 season's first afternoon thunderstorms for Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Air temps are excellent at 74 nights to 93 daytime highs and a 66% humidity level.
Sea Conditions: Near excellent! Sea temps at 86-87 from inshore to offshore. Tropical surface breezes flowing in from the west southwest and ranged from light to about 10-11 mph. Very fishable conditions.
Best fishing area: Right out in front of the Bay with a good billfish bite in the 7-12 mile zone for the billfish.
Best bait/lure: Rigged baits working well for the sailfish and for the marlin. Poppers and live bait working well for the inshore fishing, especially for the jack crevalle and roosterfish.
Bait Supply: Remains great! Lots of quality baits for rigging and live baits at the rat4e of $5.00 per dozen.
