Puerto Morelos Fish Report

4-16-2015
Larry Edwards

Our on-the-spot reporter for the Marina El Cid Sportfishing Fleet from Puerto Morelos, Ms. Jessica Ortega, has provided us with another excellent catch report for the past week's fleet efforts that included a 15 fish variety for an accumulated fleet report. The overall catches reflected 2 white marlin, 10 sailfish, 27 dorado, 4 wahoo, 86 bonito, 13 giant barracuda, 2 blackfin tuna, 2 Spanish mackerel, 1 amberjack, 2 sharks, 71 snappers, 45 chac-chi, 53 triggerfish, 12 banana fish and 16 grouper. The overall average catches were just below 5 fish per boat fishing day, so plenty of action starting just outside the Marina El Cid entrance to the Caribbean.

PM Climate: A mixed sunny-cloudy week with an all sunny Friday and temps that ranged from 74 nights to 87 daytime highs and an average humidity level at 70%.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps stable at the 81-82 degree temp ranges and the tropical surface breezes flowed in from the easterly directions with most days in the light to 16 mph ranges, all fishable throughout the week.

Best Bait: The always available and freshly caught ballyhoo baits included with the charters continues to be the bait of choice by both, anglers and crews.
