THE MAZATLAN FISHING REPORT FOR THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET, (MARINA EL CID PACIFIC)

We saw a little bit of a slowdown this past week for The Aries Sportfishing Fleet from Mazatlan, but primarily due to the full moon phase that made the fishing more difficult for the anglers and the crews. The overall offshore fish counts for a total o 20 days reflected a 75% catch rate that reflected 10 striped marlin, (9 released) 5 sailfish, (3 released) or 15 billfish. The inshore super pangas had another banner fishing week for a total of 7 days fished that reflected 13 jack crevalle, 72 seabass, 15 triggerfish, 1 grouper, 5 permit and limits of snappers. As long as the water temps and favorable clarity remain constant, we should see the counts headed back up for the coming weeks.

Mazatlan Climate: Air temps varied from 61 nights to 89 daytime highs and a 60% average humidity level. Sunny & clear during the early week and then changing to partly cloudy days from Wednesday thru Sunday.

Sea Conditions: Water temps stable at 79 inshore and rising to 81 offshore. Surface breezes flowing in from the westerly directions from near calm to 16 mph.

Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 15 miles out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid and working outbound and southerly from there.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged trolling baits were working best for the billfish.

Bait Supply: An excellent bait supply that included live bait at $1.00 per bait and freshly caught baits for rigging & trolling from the outriggers.
