THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISHING REPORT FOR THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET

Another difficult fishing week for Zihuatanejo, according to Captain Temo Verboonen. The full moon phase and the cooler water temps from the southern equatorial current really caused the fish to withdraw from chewing on the presented baits and artificials and as Temo said, "They simply ignore everything we offer them". The inshore waters were providing a few bonitos and Sierras but even there, the bite was abnormally slow.

IZ Climate: Air temps ranged from 68 nights to 90 daytime highs and a 58% average humidity level. It's been a sunny and warm week with clear skies. Outstanding weather for fishing even if the fish are being stubborn.

Sea Conditions: Inshore temps at 79 degrees, rising to 81 offshore from about 8-9 miles or so. Surface breezes are tropical and range from near calm mornings to about 11 mph in the afternoons.

Best Fishing Area: No area was specified for any offshore area and even the inshore fishing was difficult for the most part.

Best Bait/Lure: The apparent combination of full moon and under the surface water temperatures have seemed to create a complete lack of interest in bait/lure offerings.

Bait Supply: Plenty of bait, both live and fresh rigging baits. Live baits at $5.00 per dozen and fresh baits for rigging provided as part of the charter.
