A good beginning enjoying grease calm conditions and a few afternoon hits on nice yellows before settling in for the night. Held up by the inevitably approaching, soon to be remnants, of Tropical Storm Simon we are fortunate to have excellent yellowtail fishing available. Though predicting tomorrow's results is more than a little presumptuous in this case I'll venture the bet; there is a lot of sign around in the most perfect conditions imaginable. We have to get them before counting them however. We shall see.

The big question mark in the plan is beyond tomorrow. How, when, what, and where? All good questions in light of the forecast; suffice it to say that this is when we earn our keep behind the helm. To these four questions presently there is no easy answer, with the exception of the obvious - remain safe. To family and friends following the narrative rest assured that what remains of Simon tomorrow will not be a threat to us on Royal Star. We might not be perfectly comfortable, but we will be safe. And whatever discomfort we must endure will be short lived. According to forecasts this whole event will be a memory by Wednesday.

Photo today features long time Royal Star veterans and fishing family Gene, Bob, and Chris Hendrickson. A dream come true in my book; I hope for the same privilege someday.

10/4/14 Running south on our first ten day of the 2014 fall fishing season we again face what has become the signature challenge of this year. Yet another strong tropical cyclone, this time Hurricane Simon, is barreling up the coast taking aim at the zone where we would prefer to begin. Needless to say any and all plans for a banzai run below are on hold. By all calculations we are destined to spend the first couple of days on the...... Read More

10/03/14 We finished our trip with a bang today. We had a ripper yellowtail bite where they ate everything in the water. When we had enough yellows, we left them biting. We are currently traveling towards home in flat calm weather, and will be in, in the morning. Tim will be at the helm for our first 10-day trip of the season. Brian...... Read More
