Running south on our first ten day of the 2014 fall fishing season we again face what has become the signature challenge of this year. Yet another strong tropical cyclone, this time Hurricane Simon, is barreling up the coast taking aim at the zone where we would prefer to begin. Needless to say any and all plans for a banzai run below are on hold. By all calculations we are destined to spend the first couple of days on the beach up above targeting our yellowtail in the beginning of the trip. So be it.

The silver lining in all this, actually silver linings as there are several positives, is that we have a variety of destinations to choose from and primo working conditions in the way of sea states and water temperatures. For this stretch of coast we are fortunate indeed. And, as this next tempest is forecast to continue pushing tropical water temperatures and species north this only bodes well for the three day voyages we have scheduled at the end of the month.

Dorado, yellowfin tuna, and even a few wahoo offshore are presently well within three day range. Throw in the bounty of coastal yellowtail and the prospects for variety are excellent; certainly as good as I can ever recall at this time of year. As it stands now nothing pending in the way of weather and/or water conditions indicates a change for the worse; the exact opposite is what we are seeing.

Tracy and Capt. Brian Sims are in the Royal Star office all next week if you have any questions or are ready reserve space. The first voyage departing Saturday October 25th - returning Tuesday October 28th is down to less than a couple of handfuls of spots available. The second voyage departing Friday October 31st returing Monday November 3rd isn't far behind.

For now though we focus on the task at hand waiting for the door to the lower regions to open. It looks right now like we are going to get our shot but Mother Nature, as always, in in firm command. We'll take heed of what our years out here have taught us and bide our time. There is plenty of fishing to do meanwhile.

10/03/14 We finished our trip with a bang today. We had a ripper yellowtail bite where they ate everything in the water. When we had enough yellows, we left them biting. We are currently traveling towards home in flat calm weather, and will be in, in the morning. Tim will be at the helm for our first 10-day trip of the season. Brian...... Read More

10/02/14 Today we worked up in good weather targeting yellowtail. We scratched at them from various areas throughout the day, but never got them to sustain a bite. By the end of the day we had put together a reasonable score, but still have the desire for a few more. We will be looking for a few more tomorrow. Randy Walker caught this beauty from an isolated deep stone. Brian Photo Here......... Read More
