Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

As earlier reported, the rare opportunity to present Royal Star anglers with a one and one half day voyage targeting albacore and other offshore species arose a few months back and Randy and I were quick to jump at the chance scheduling two of these coveted "mini" long range adventures over the Memorial Day weekend. These voyages are a fantastic opportunity for prospective long range anglers to taste the Royal Star experience before dedicating more time to a traditional long range adventure. Aside from the shorter time frame, these one and one half day voyages are being operated exactly as a longer trip with five full meals served and the level of service one can expect on all long range voyages. Our fishing today was consistent with what appeared to be available with a total of sixteen albacore landed as well as plenty of smaller grade kelp paddy yellowtail. The weather was typical offshore with twelve to fifteen knots of NW breeze and three to seven ft. seas. Jackpot honors went to two lucky anglers with albacore that weighed twenty two and twenty one pounds respectively. We will be departing again tonight on our final short trip of the season before spending a few days in for routine maintenance prior to our busy summer/fall season.

Not the banner finale we were hoping for but a nice day nonetheless. Bruce started us off again this morning with a 210 which was followed by a slow scratch the rest of the day for a total of 12 fish from 110-180. We also had 20 wahoo mixed in which added excitement to the day. We are presently traveling into the cape in decent weather and should arrive early on the 23rd. Tim and I have decided to make this trip...... Read More

Bruce started off the day with another released cow we estimated at 220-225 taken on a scad from Alijos. I'm sure this is the first time anyone has released two over 200 in a trip, on purpose anyway. The rest of the day fell right into place with nice steady scratching on beautiful grade fish. Our total was 20 for the day, 15 of which were 130-195 with 5 over 200 including Bruce's fish. Needless to say we're on cloud...... Read More
